Which rules can apply to Air France flights

Air France is registered here as an EU/EEA-regime carrier.

  • EU261 can apply to departures from EU airports on any airline, and to arrivals into the EU from outside the EU when an EU carrier operates the flight.
  • UK261 can apply to this EU carrier on departures from UK airports and on arrivals into the UK from abroad.
  • Whether a given flight is covered still depends on the operating carrier, the airports, the delay at final arrival and the stated cause.

This is orientation from the carrier's registration, not advice on a specific flight. Use the calculator for a preliminary check.

Route guides through CDG

Route guides are not specific to Air France: several airlines fly most of these routes, so confirm the operating carrier on your booking.

Air France: how to prepare your claim

Air France's claims hub is the starting point for a completed journey involving a delay, cancellation or other service problem. For travel connecting in Paris Charles de Gaulle, the useful record is the complete booking and eventual destination, including any partner flight after the Paris connection.

Separate a claim from a booking change

Use the claims hub for the affected Air France, KLM or Delta itinerary and select the relevant problem. Booking changes before departure, missing Flying Blue miles and disruption compensation are different topics. In the narrative, name the flight's operating carrier, the date and both the original and replacement journey. If you are requesting hotel reimbursement as well, give the overnight location and connect each receipt to the wait caused by the disruption.

A Paris connection needs a clear timeline

Do not let an early departure from Paris hide a late arrival at the final destination, or confuse a cancelled segment with a voluntary booking change. Save the first cancellation message and any new itinerary issued through the app. If a refusal relies on a strike, ask whose staff were involved and how that event affected the flight; the word strike alone does not decide the legal outcome. Record whether the onward flights were on the same booking.

EU and UK rights; follow-up without a made-up deadline

An Air France-operated inbound EU journey may qualify under EU261 as well as an EU departure. For UK departures or qualifying UK arrivals, consider UK261 too, without seeking duplicate recovery. No verified global average claim response time is available here. Air France's US customer commitment separately promises acknowledgement within 30 days and a substantive answer within 60 days for written complaints; that regional commitment is not a worldwide compensation-payment guarantee. Use the claim reference when following up.
