Baggage Rights guides

Keep the evidence, then act promptly.

For checked baggage, the Montreal Convention framework can set a liability ceiling. The actual airline assessment depends on route, carrier, evidence, notice timing and documented loss.

Montreal Convention

The current ICAO Article 22(2) ceiling is 1,519 SDR, effective 28 December 2024. It is not an automatic payout.

Delayed baggage

Keep your PIR and receipts for reasonable essentials; use the carrier’s written process promptly.

Lost baggage

Keep the baggage tag and written status. A bag missing for 21 days may need a loss-status review with the carrier.

Damaged baggage

Document the condition and act promptly; carrier notice processes can be time-sensitive.
