Which rules can apply to Lufthansa flights
Lufthansa is registered here as an EU/EEA-regime carrier.
- EU261 can apply to departures from EU airports on any airline, and to arrivals into the EU from outside the EU when an EU carrier operates the flight.
- UK261 can apply to this EU carrier on departures from UK airports and on arrivals into the UK from abroad.
- Whether a given flight is covered still depends on the operating carrier, the airports, the delay at final arrival and the stated cause.
This is orientation from the carrier's registration, not advice on a specific flight. Use the calculator for a preliminary check.

Lufthansa: how to prepare your claim
A Lufthansa claim often needs the complete itinerary through Frankfurt or Munich, rather than just the flight that left late. Start with the operating airline shown on the travel documents: an LH marketing number does not by itself establish that Lufthansa operated every leg.
Use the disruption application, with both connections
Lufthansa's compensation and reimbursement application starts with the affected booking. For a missed connection, attach the original confirmation and replacement itinerary together, and give the actual arrival at the ticketed destination. Put hotel, meal and ground-transport receipts in a separate expense total. A ticket refund for an abandoned journey is a different request from fixed compensation for lost time; explain which you are seeking.
Frankfurt and Munich: what the evidence should show
If a feeder was replaced by a train, retain the rail ticket and the instructions Lufthansa supplied, plus evidence of whether the onward flight was still reachable. If the rejection cites weather or air-traffic restrictions, ask which flight and time period were affected and what rerouting was considered. If it cites a short delay, check whether it measured the first leg instead of the final arrival on the through booking.
Coverage and the reply you can expect
For Lufthansa-operated flights, EU261 can cover EU departures and arrivals into the EU from outside it; UK261 can cover UK departures and qualifying UK arrivals. The route and disruption still decide entitlement, and overlapping rules do not mean double compensation. Lufthansa's application is not evidence of a guaranteed payout date. We have no verified current average processing time: save the acknowledgement and follow up using its reference instead of opening duplicate cases.
