JFK–FRA: distance and itinerary

The great-circle distance between JFK and FRA is approximately 6,189 km, in the over 3,500 km band. This endpoint calculation does not add detours. For a through connection, check the original departure and last ticketed destination before selecting a compensation band.

What makes this airport pair different

Lufthansa's New York search includes airport choices; this claim guide is specifically Frankfurt–JFK. A switch to Newark can be useful, but record the different airport and agreed transfer. Do not substitute Frankfurt-Hahn (HHN) for Frankfurt Airport (FRA) in the distance calculation or claim documents.

Which rules to test for JFK → FRA

For a standalone JFK–FRA arrival from outside Europe, EU261 generally requires an eligible EU/EEA or Swiss operating carrier. A European ticket seller is insufficient. Keep any compensation or assistance already received under another country's rules in the evidence record.

Connections, alternatives and useful evidence

For a disrupted German feeder into FRA, retain the whole ticket to JFK and the reissued sectors. If the first part was a separately booked train, do not assume the same missed-connection rules apply. Lufthansa Group branding also does not establish which company operated a replacement flight.

FRA: arrival and onward travel

Frankfurt's Terminal 3 changes the advice found in older two-terminal guides. Check the current terminal for every replacement flight and use the airport's current SkyLine information rather than a saved route from an earlier trip.
