FRA: connections and disruption help

Frankfurt's Terminal 3 changes the advice found in older two-terminal guides. Check the current terminal for every replacement flight and use the airport's current SkyLine information rather than a saved route from an earlier trip.

Rail arrival does not finish the airport transfer

Frankfurt's regional and long-distance stations serve the airport, but a Terminal 3 departure involves the onward link to that terminal. The airport describes SkyLine access and a shuttle alternative outside its operating hours. Keep the difference between train arrival, terminal arrival and airline check-in cutoff clear when an inbound train or flight is delayed. A short people-mover ride is not the complete connection time.

Follow the gate's security and border route

A Lufthansa connection and a replacement with another carrier may depart from different parts of FRA. Check the complete gate code and whether staff direct you through passport control, security or a terminal transfer. If your itinerary includes a rail segment, show that reservation as well as the flight ticket when asking for recovery options; a separately bought rail ticket should not be presented as an airline-issued sector.

Keep evidence of the rerouting actually offered

Save the old and new terminal assignments, the time the new boarding pass was issued and any SkyLine or bus instructions. If FRA is replaced by Hahn or another city, ask for the exact airport code before considering the transfer. FRA and HHN are not terminals of one airport. Note where baggage is to be collected before leaving the building.

Departing from FRA

A journey departing Frankfurt Airport normally starts with the EU261 route test. The operating carrier, final ticketed destination, timing and airline-recorded cause still determine the next step.

Arriving at FRA

For a flight arriving at FRA from outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland, identify whether the operating airline is an EU/EEA/Swiss carrier. The marketing airline on the ticket may be different.
