MUC: connections and disruption help

Munich has two transfer questions that are easy to confuse: moving between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, and reaching Terminal 2's satellite gates. The bus between terminals is not the satellite train.

Match the gate code to the correct system

Follow the onward gate signs for Terminal 1 or Terminal 2; the airport provides a shuttle for the relevant inter-terminal transfer. Terminal 2 satellite gates use the underground transport link. After a rebooking, check the new gate letters before choosing either route. A replacement with a different airline may change the building even though your final destination has not changed.

Hall F needs a separate plan

Munich identifies Hall F as a separate building reached on foot through the public area. If your flight documents specify Hall F, ask staff about the required arrival, entry and screening route before relying on an ordinary airside connection. For any overnight arrangement, tell the airline if you cannot enter Germany or collect your bags without disrupting the onward itinerary.

Describe the connection using useful timestamps

Keep the arrival gate or bus stand, the transfer desk's instructions and the time you were able to reach the onward boarding area. Where terminal transport contributes to a missed flight, identify whether it was the T1–T2 shuttle or the T2 satellite link; they are different stages. Ask the airline to preserve the final destination on the booking when it offers a replacement through another hub, and retain the revised bag tags.

Departing from MUC

A journey departing Munich Airport normally starts with the EU261 route test. The operating carrier, final ticketed destination, timing and airline-recorded cause still determine the next step.

Arriving at MUC

For a flight arriving at MUC from outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland, identify whether the operating airline is an EU/EEA/Swiss carrier. The marketing airline on the ticket may be different.
