Which rules can apply to Turkish Airlines flights
Turkish Airlines is not registered here as an EU or UK carrier.
- EU261 and UK261 generally apply to its flights only when they depart from an airport in the EU/EEA/Switzerland or the UK.
- Flights on this airline that arrive in the EU or UK from elsewhere are generally outside EU261/UK261, but other national or contractual rules may apply.
- Check which airline operated each leg: a code-share ticket can combine carriers with different coverage.
This is orientation from the carrier's registration, not advice on a specific flight. Use the calculator for a preliminary check.

Turkish Airlines: how to prepare your claim
An Istanbul connection is often the decisive part of a Turkish Airlines claim. Record whether the journey used Istanbul Airport (IST), every flight number and the destination on the original through-ticket. A delay on the first sector and a missed onward connection need one clear timeline, rather than two unrelated accounts.
Use the Turkish Airlines feedback case
Open the official feedback categories and select the issue that describes the disrupted flight. Include the booking reference, travel date, original connection and replacement itinerary. Ask separately for the compensation assessment and reimbursement of supported expenses. Keep the case number so later evidence reaches the same complaint. Baggage tracking has its own process and should not replace the flight claim.
Departure through Istanbul versus a journey starting there
A covered EU departure can remain relevant when the delay occurs on an onward sector after Istanbul on one booking. Starting a separate Turkish-operated journey in Istanbul and flying to an EU airport does not create EU261 coverage merely because the destination is in the EU. UK departures are assessed under UK261. Turkish passenger-rights rules may require a separate assessment for flights outside those scopes.
Questions after a refusal and when to follow up
Did the reply assess arrival at the final destination, or only the Istanbul landing? If it cites airport restrictions, ask for the affected sector, times and connection to your delay. Check that the actual operating carrier matches the claim. We have not verified a universal Turkish Airlines claim-resolution deadline; use the acknowledgement and existing case reference to request progress, without treating an automated reply as acceptance.
