About the editor

Short answer

easyJet journeys should be assessed using the flight actually operated, the route and disruption record. Airline communications and any accepted rebooking are important evidence. FlightRefundCalc provides preliminary educational information, not a claim decision or payment guarantee.

easyJet: network and rights at a glance

Registered country
United Kingdom
IATA code
U2
Alliance
None (not in Star Alliance, oneworld or SkyTeam)
Hub airport
No single hub: base-network operator

Not a member of Star Alliance, oneworld or SkyTeam. Operates a base network rather than a classic connecting hub system, so check the operating airline and the exact airports on your booking.

Operating entity: easyJet flights are operated by separate legal entities (for example easyJet Airline Company in the UK, easyJet Europe in Austria and easyJet Switzerland). The operating entity shown on your booking is what counts.

Which rules can apply to easyJet flights

easyJet is registered here as a UK carrier.

  • UK261 can apply when this UK carrier departs the UK, arrives in the UK from abroad, or arrives in the EU from abroad.
  • EU261 can apply to its flights that depart from an airport in an EU member state (plus Iceland, Norway and Switzerland), whichever airline operates them.
  • Whether a given flight is covered still depends on the operating carrier, the airports, the delay at final arrival and the stated cause.

This is orientation from the carrier's registration, not advice on a specific flight. Use the calculator for a preliminary check.

Where easyJet takes claims

Official claim channel, as reviewed by us: www.easyjet.com. Airline-operated EU261 compensation portal; source checked on 26 August 2026. Link last reviewed 2026-08-26.

Alliance, group and hub facts last checked against Wikipedia: EasyJet. These are not delay statistics: FlightRefundCalc does not publish punctuality or compensation-outcome figures for easyJet.

easyJet: how to prepare your claim

easyJet has different online forms for fixed compensation and disruption expenses. Sending a meal receipt through the compensation portal alone can leave the expense question unresolved. Prepare two clearly separated requests when both are relevant, using the booking and flight details for the disrupted service.

Use the compensation and welfare forms correctly

The EC261 portal requires a complete, accurate application and warns that missing booking or flight information can prevent processing. The welfare form is for personal expenses from a cancelled, diverted or delayed flight. For an overnight diversion, show the original destination, diversion airport, transport and hotel costs separately; the credit-card total alone does not explain what each purchase was for.

The orange brand has three operating airlines

Check for easyJet UK, easyJet Europe in Austria or easyJet Switzerland on your booking. For example, a Marrakech–London return on a UK operator and a Marrakech–Paris return on the Austrian operator require different UK/EU coverage checks. For Swiss operation, use the Swiss framework as well. Gatwick, Luton or Geneva on the itinerary is useful context; the airport alone does not identify the company flying the aircraft.

Check the explanation and keep the form acknowledgement

If a decision cites weather, compare it with the date, airport and flight described in your application rather than assuming all disruptions that day had one cause. easyJet's terms ask direct claimants to allow 28 days, or a shorter legally required period, before appointing a third party. This is a response provision, not an observed settlement speed. A rejected compensation request does not by itself decide the separate welfare-expense claim.

Prepare your claim letter

Use the facts before you act

Use this guide as a preparation checklist. Confirm the flight was operated by easyJet, retain the itinerary and disruption notice, and distinguish compensation, care, refund and rerouting questions. The free letter tool prepares a factual request for the airline's official channel without uploading documents to this website. A reliable request starts with a timeline rather than a conclusion. Compare the scheduled departure and arrival with the actual final arrival, write down when the airline gave notice, and keep any email, app message or airport notice. If an alternative flight was offered, record its proposed arrival and whether you accepted it. If you paid reasonable expenses while waiting, keep the itemised receipt and the reason it was necessary. These facts can support different questions about care, rerouting, refund or a possible statutory framework, but they do not automatically establish every remedy. For a connection, the final ticketed destination and whether all flights were on one booking can be as important as the first disrupted segment. A short departure delay may still create a material final-arrival difference; conversely, an earlier delay does not answer the whole question by itself. For a cancellation, notice timing and the replacement journey should be recorded separately. For denied boarding, distinguish an airline-imposed situation from a voluntary change. A schedule change may need the original itinerary, the revised itinerary and the point at which the passenger was informed. These distinctions help avoid a misleading one-size-fits-all result.

Worked example

Worked example: a easyJet passenger receives a cancellation message and a replacement option. Record the notice time, the route, original and replacement arrival, and whether the alternative was accepted. Those facts help the calculator show a preliminary route while the airline's written cause remains a necessary condition.

A practical evidence checklist

Write down the scheduled and actual timing, preserve the airline’s notice, and keep the booking, boarding or check-in proof, replacement offer and reasonable expense receipts. These records help explain what happened to the airline. They are not uploaded to FlightRefundCalc, and the site does not file a claim or decide an outcome.

Keep the legal questions separate

A disruption can create different questions about care while waiting, refund versus rerouting, a possible statutory compensation framework and expenses. An airline’s written explanation may affect one question without deciding all the others. Use official authority guidance and qualified advice for a decision with legal or financial consequences.

Check your own journey, not an example.

The calculator asks for the operating carrier, route, notice and disruption facts before showing a preliminary result. It does not guarantee compensation.

Common questions

Does this airline page guarantee compensation?+

No. It is an educational framework page. The operating carrier, route, disruption facts, notice, final arrival, rerouting and the airline's written reason can all matter.

Why does the operating airline matter?+

The airline that operated the disrupted flight can be different from the ticket seller or a code-share marketing carrier. Keep the itinerary and disruption notice before you submit a request.

What should I keep?+

Keep booking confirmation, check-in or boarding evidence, the airline notice, scheduled and actual timing, rerouting offers and reasonable expense receipts. Do not upload personal documents to this website.

Where should I send a request?+

Start with the airline's current official channel. Use the free letter toolkit to prepare a factual request, then check the airline's own current instructions before submitting personal information.
