Which rules can apply to Aer Lingus flights
Aer Lingus is registered here as an EU/EEA-regime carrier.
- EU261 can apply to departures from EU airports on any airline, and to arrivals into the EU from outside the EU when an EU carrier operates the flight.
- UK261 can apply to this EU carrier on departures from UK airports and on arrivals into the UK from abroad.
- Whether a given flight is covered still depends on the operating carrier, the airports, the delay at final arrival and the stated cause.
This is orientation from the carrier's registration, not advice on a specific flight. Use the calculator for a preliminary check.

Guides relevant to Aer Lingus
Route guides through DUB
Route guides are not specific to Aer Lingus: several airlines fly most of these routes, so confirm the operating carrier on your booking.

Aer Lingus: how to prepare your claim
Aer Lingus publishes a dedicated flight-disruption compensation form and a different expenses form. Its Requests & Enquiries hub also offers disrupted-flight refunds. Choosing among these matters: money for an unused ticket, a fixed delay award and reimbursement of a Dublin overnight stay are distinct requests.
Collect the full journey for the correct form
The compensation form asks for the booking reference, all claimed flights, contact and bank details, plus authority where someone claims for another passenger. Put receipts for reasonable disruption costs into the expenses request instead. If the issue is a cancelled flight you did not take, review the disrupted-flight refund options before choosing cash or a voucher; record what you accepted.
Dublin connections and the UK subsidiary
For a one-ticket Glasgow–Dublin–Boston example, retain the feeder flight and final Boston arrival rather than measuring only the Dublin delay. Aer Lingus Ireland is an EU operator, but Aer Lingus UK is a separate company: check the operator on transatlantic bookings. A marketing EI code or Irish-branded website does not remove that distinction. The relevant departure and arrival territory then determine which EU or UK rules to assess.
Keep assistance and the disruption cause separate
If a reply groups a missed connection under weather, request the sector and event that caused it; your itinerary should show whether the connection was protected on one booking. Keep accommodation offers and receipt evidence even when fixed compensation is disputed. No average Aer Lingus claim turnaround is asserted here. Use the saved case reference to follow up and provide the complete flight history rather than starting from an isolated connecting sector.
