Which rules can apply to Wizz Air flights
Wizz Air is registered here as an EU/EEA-regime carrier.
- EU261 can apply to departures from EU airports on any airline, and to arrivals into the EU from outside the EU when an EU carrier operates the flight.
- UK261 can apply to this EU carrier on departures from UK airports and on arrivals into the UK from abroad.
- Whether a given flight is covered still depends on the operating carrier, the airports, the delay at final arrival and the stated cause.
This is orientation from the carrier's registration, not advice on a specific flight. Use the calculator for a preliminary check.

Wizz Air: how to prepare your claim
Wizz Air is a group brand, so identifying the operating company is the first claim step. W6 identifies Wizz Air Hungary, W4 Wizz Air Malta and W9 Wizz Air UK. Read the operator on the confirmation as well as the flight code; this can change the applicable passenger-rights regime.
Choose the right category in your WIZZ Account
Use the passenger claim form linked from Wizz's Help Centre and select the category that matches compensation, refund or expenses. After submission, keep the unique claim ID and check Your Claims in your WIZZ Account. The airline says an incorrect category can prolong handling and duplicate submissions are merged. Reply from the email used for the original claim when supplying missing documents; the company-claims portal is not the ordinary passenger route.
Hungary, Malta and UK operations are different
Budapest and London Luton illustrate why the brand alone is insufficient. EU-licensed Hungary and Malta operations may qualify for EU261 on inbound EU flights as well as EU departures. A Wizz Air UK flight departing a non-EU country for the EU is not EU-operated merely because the parent group is Hungarian; UK261 may instead be relevant. UK departures have UK protection regardless of which Wizz company flies them. Enter the real operator when checking eligibility.
Credits, rebooking evidence and the 30-day target
If a credit has appeared in your account, establish whether it settles the unused ticket or the compensation claim; they are not interchangeable. For a refusal, check the stated operator, cancellation notice timestamp and the departure and arrival of any offered alternative. These are case checks, not a claim about Wizz's most frequent refusal reasons. Wizz publishes a 30-day handling target and advises replying in the original thread after a prolonged silence; it is not a guaranteed payment deadline.
