Which rules can apply to Qantas flights
Qantas is not registered here as an EU or UK carrier.
- EU261 and UK261 generally apply to its flights only when they depart from an airport in the EU/EEA/Switzerland or the UK.
- Flights on this airline that arrive in the EU or UK from elsewhere are generally outside EU261/UK261, but other national or contractual rules may apply.
- Check which airline operated each leg: a code-share ticket can combine carriers with different coverage.
This is orientation from the carrier's registration, not advice on a specific flight. Use the calculator for a preliminary check.

Guides relevant to Qantas
Route guides through SYD/BNE
Route guides are not specific to Qantas: several airlines fly most of these routes, so confirm the operating carrier on your booking.
Alliance, group and hub facts last checked against Wikipedia: Qantas, oneworld: member airlines. These are not delay statistics: FlightRefundCalc does not publish punctuality or compensation-outcome figures for Qantas.
Qantas: how to prepare your claim
Qantas directs post-travel complaints and claims to its Customer Care request form. Its Australian complaints process distinguishes acknowledgement, resolution and progress updates. These are service targets with exceptions for complex cases, not evidence that every delay claim will be paid within a fixed number of days.
State the journey and remedy in Customer Care
Use the official request form and describe whether you seek disruption compensation, reasonable expenses or an unused-ticket refund. Include the original and replacement itineraries, including any Qantas connection in Perth, Sydney or Melbourne. Where a QF number was operated by a partner, identify that operator explicitly. Keep the Customer Care reference so later explanations and receipts can be related to the same complaint.
UK departure and Australian domestic delay are different cases
For an illustrative London–Perth–Sydney journey on one booking, preserve the final Sydney arrival and the starting point in London. A standalone Perth–London service operated by Qantas does not gain UK261 coverage merely from its UK destination: Qantas is an Australian operator. A domestic Melbourne–Sydney delay needs Australian rights and Qantas policy analysis rather than automatically importing European compensation bands.
Published timing and a useful refusal review
Qantas' Australian process lists acknowledgement within three business days, typical resolution within 15 business days and, if needed, typical updates every seven business days; it also explains that complex matters take longer. If a refusal says the route is outside EU/UK rules, verify the start of the complete booking before disputing it. If the journey is indeed outside scope, ask Qantas to address the applicable local remedy rather than repeating an unsupported euro claim.
