Which rules can apply to TAP Air Portugal flights

TAP Air Portugal is registered here as an EU/EEA-regime carrier.

  • EU261 can apply to departures from EU airports on any airline, and to arrivals into the EU from outside the EU when an EU carrier operates the flight.
  • UK261 can apply to this EU carrier on departures from UK airports and on arrivals into the UK from abroad.
  • Whether a given flight is covered still depends on the operating carrier, the airports, the delay at final arrival and the stated cause.

This is orientation from the carrier's registration, not advice on a specific flight. Use the calculator for a preliminary check.

TAP Air Portugal: how to prepare your claim

TAP's Requests and complaints page distinguishes a complaint from a Miles&Go information request or a compliment. Choose Complaints → Check / make a complaint for an unresolved flight disruption. A loyalty-programme request does not document a claim about a missed Lisbon connection.

Keep the first ticket and the reissued itinerary

Enter through the complaints route with the booking, affected TP flight and the remedy requested. For a rerouted journey, retain the original schedule alongside the replacement ticket so the final-arrival difference remains visible. Put necessary waiting expenses into an itemised attachment with currency and date. Use the separate refund service for unused-ticket reimbursement and record whether you accepted rerouting or abandoned the journey.

Lisbon and Porto change which evidence matters

An illustrative Porto–Lisbon–São Paulo reservation requires both Portuguese sectors and the long-haul outcome, not just a screenshot of the first departure. TAP's EU operating status can matter on a TAP-operated Brazil-to-Portugal return as well. If a feeder displays TAP Express or another operating-company name, preserve that wording. If a separately bought ticket follows the TAP journey, do not silently add its destination to the protected booking.

Ask a precise follow-up about a disputed connection

If TAP says the connection was not covered, provide the original booking showing how the sectors were sold. If it cites airport restrictions, request the restriction and its connection to the delay; do not presume every Lisbon disruption has the same cause. The public entry page does not establish a measured response average. Follow up using the case details and preserve any acknowledgement, offered voucher and final written position as different records.
