Which rules can apply to Finnair flights

Finnair is registered here as an EU/EEA-regime carrier.

  • EU261 can apply to departures from EU airports on any airline, and to arrivals into the EU from outside the EU when an EU carrier operates the flight.
  • UK261 can apply to this EU carrier on departures from UK airports and on arrivals into the UK from abroad.
  • Whether a given flight is covered still depends on the operating carrier, the airports, the delay at final arrival and the stated cause.

This is orientation from the carrier's registration, not advice on a specific flight. Use the calculator for a preliminary check.

Where Finnair takes claims

Official claim channel, as reviewed by us: www.finnair.com. Use feedback and compensation for past travel. Finnair states a 28-day reply commitment; this is not a payment deadline. Link last reviewed 2026-09-29.

Finnair: how to prepare your claim

Finnair's post-travel feedback form distinguishes flight disruption claims from baggage problems. When the journey connects at Helsinki, assemble the onward itinerary before submitting: a relatively short feeder delay can still mean missing the next flight and arriving much later at the booked destination.

Submit the flight-disruption request

Go to Feedback and compensation and choose the claim request for flight disruptions or baggage issues, then describe the flight case. A WorldTracer report is relevant to delayed or damaged baggage, not a substitute for proving a missed connection. Supply the reservation, travel date, affected operator and replacement arrival. If you paid for necessities at Helsinki, itemise those expenses separately and retain the airline messages showing what assistance had already been offered.

A Helsinki itinerary: timing and operator questions

Compare the original final destination with the destination reached after rerouting, and record whether all flights shared one booking. If a refusal cites winter conditions, request the event and time window instead of assuming that all disruption in Finland is weather-related. If the booking carries an AY number but another airline operated the affected leg, make that clear. EU261 can cover Finnair-operated inbound EU flights, while UK departures and eligible UK arrivals may fall under UK261.

28-day reply commitment is not 28-day payment

Finnair's published FAQ states a passenger-commitment target of replying to feedback within 28 days, with compensation paid as the case is resolved. That is a stated commitment, not our measurement of claim speed or a guarantee of money within four weeks. Its compensation information also distinguishes cash from an optional gift card. Decide on the settlement form deliberately and keep the decision email, the case reference and any request for bank details together.
