IST–AMS: distance and itinerary

The great-circle distance between IST and AMS is approximately 2,182 km, in the 1,500–3,500 km band. This endpoint calculation does not add detours. For a through connection, check the original departure and last ticketed destination before selecting a compensation band.

What makes this airport pair different

Schiphol–Istanbul is not Schiphol–Sabiha Gökçen. Turkish Airlines lists IST services, while a reroute to SAW changes the onward transfer problem. Ask for the airport-specific replacement itinerary; a mobile notification displaying only Istanbul can hide a material change.

Which rules to test for IST → AMS

For a standalone IST–AMS arrival from outside Europe, EU261 generally requires an eligible EU/EEA or Swiss operating carrier. A European ticket seller is insufficient. Keep any compensation or assistance already received under another country's rules in the evidence record.

Connections, alternatives and useful evidence

For AMS departure on Turkish Airlines, EU261 can be relevant regardless of its Turkish base. The same carrier on IST–AMS does not gain EU coverage from Schiphol as destination. Keep an onward Turkish domestic connection if it forms one reservation; independent onward tickets need separate treatment.

AMS: arrival and onward travel

At Schiphol, concentrate on your pier, gate and Schengen status rather than looking for a terminal shuttle. A gate change and an extra border checkpoint can change the practical connection even inside the same airport complex.
