LHR–DXB: distance and itinerary

The great-circle distance between LHR and DXB is approximately 5,497 km, in the over 3,500 km band. This endpoint calculation does not add detours. For a through connection, check the original departure and last ticketed destination before selecting a compensation band.

What makes this airport pair different

Emirates' Dubai gateway is DXB. Dubai World Central (DWC), Abu Dhabi (AUH) and Sharjah (SHJ) are separate airports. If Heathrow–Dubai is changed to one of them, ask for the exact end point and who pays for the onward transfer; a similar city description is not enough.

Which rules to test for LHR → DXB

LHR departure puts this direction within UK261's territorial scope on any operating airline. That does not establish payment: arrival delay, cancellation notice, replacement timings and the proven cause still matter. Assess DXB–LHR separately; a return ticket does not make both directions identical.

Connections, alternatives and useful evidence

A Dubai connection to India or Australia on the same Heathrow-origin reservation requires the whole itinerary. A separately purchased onward ticket at DXB needs separate analysis. For Dubai–Heathrow on Emirates, the London destination by itself does not bring a standalone flight within UK261.

DXB: arrival and onward travel

Dubai International has three terminals, and a terminal number is different from a concourse or gate letter. Record both when a disruption moves your departure: T3 with a different concourse is not the same change as a transfer from T2 to T3.
