AUH–LHR: distance and itinerary

The great-circle distance between AUH and LHR is approximately 5,515 km, in the over 3,500 km band. This endpoint calculation does not add detours. For a through connection, check the original departure and last ticketed destination before selecting a compensation band.

What makes this airport pair different

Etihad's Heathrow–Abu Dhabi route uses Zayed International (AUH), not Dubai International. If a ticket includes an Etihad coach onward to Dubai, identify the coach as surface transport rather than a second flight. Keep its booking terms when deciding where the airline agreed to take you.

Which rules to test for AUH → LHR

AUH–LHR begins outside the EU/UK. A standalone UK arrival generally needs a UK or EU operating carrier for UK261; a non-UK/non-EU operator is not covered by destination alone. Show any earlier same-reservation departure before applying this standalone-sector rule.

Connections, alternatives and useful evidence

If AUH is only the connection before India or Australia on one Heathrow-origin reservation, use the final arrival beyond Abu Dhabi. For an Etihad-operated standalone AUH–LHR journey, British arrival alone does not establish UK261. A replacement sold by another airline still needs the actual operating company checked.

LHR: arrival and onward travel

Heathrow's crucial distinction is between a protected airside connection and two flights you booked separately. The terminal-transfer route, baggage collection and border formalities can differ even when both tickets say LHR.
