AUH: connections and disruption help
Abu Dhabi connections require a clear distinction between staying in transit and entering the UAE. At Zayed International Airport, the purple Transfer signs are the starting point for an onward flight.
Follow the transfer route before checking the gate
AUH directs connecting passengers through a dedicated security screening area. Have the onward boarding pass ready and check the departure screens after screening because the gate printed earlier may have changed. If that pass was not issued at origin, the airport identifies a Transfer Desk after security. Ask staff for the correct desk before following Arrivals signs.
A bag tag answers a different question from your ticket
The airport says baggage on one ticket or partner-airline journeys is typically transferred, but travellers should confirm the destination printed on the tag at their first check-in. Photograph that tag. If a replacement flight changes the routing, ask the transfer agent whether the bag has been reassigned as well; a new boarding pass alone does not document its destination.
Document an Abu Dhabi connection that changes
Save both flight numbers and record when the original connection became unavailable. For a US-bound replacement, ask whether the revised itinerary includes AUH pre-clearance and where to report. If an overnight stay requires leaving transit, have the airline clarify entry requirements and hotel transport before accepting the arrangement. Keep the written itinerary and any transfer instructions together.

Departing from AUH
Departure from Zayed International Airport alone does not create a fixed EU261 or UK261 band. An arrival into the EU/EEA/Switzerland or UK may require the operating carrier's status to be checked.
Arriving at AUH
If AUH is the final destination, keep the scheduled and actual door-open or arrival record. Coverage can come from the departure country or operating carrier rather than this airport's location.
