LHR–RUH: distance and itinerary

The great-circle distance between LHR and RUH is approximately 4,940 km, in the over 3,500 km band. This endpoint calculation does not add detours. For a through connection, check the original departure and last ticketed destination before selecting a compensation band.

What makes this airport pair different

Riyadh Air explicitly publishes Heathrow–Riyadh (LHR–RUH). Do not confuse its name or operator with Saudia when preparing a claim: the operating-company line determines the addressee. Riyadh is not Jeddah, and a proposed JED arrival needs a separate onward plan if RUH was your ticketed destination.

Which rules to test for LHR → RUH

LHR departure puts this direction within UK261's territorial scope on any operating airline. That does not establish payment: arrival delay, cancellation notice, replacement timings and the proven cause still matter. Assess RUH–LHR separately; a return ticket does not make both directions identical.

Connections, alternatives and useful evidence

On a Saudi-operated RUH–LHR standalone return, the London destination alone does not create UK261 protection. On departure from Heathrow, the UK starting point matters regardless of that nationality. Keep a Saudi domestic connection on the same reservation and review GACA rights separately from the UK calculation.

RUH: arrival and onward travel

Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport lists five passenger terminals. Use its current terminal finder and your flight confirmation together; an old terminal description is a poor basis for a disrupted journey.
