Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) passenger rights

Practical preparation for a delay, cancellation or missed connection involving Nairobi. Start with the complete ticketed journey and operating airline—not the airport name alone.

NBO: connections and disruption help

Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta (NBO/JKIA) and Wilson Airport are separate airports. A safari or regional onward booking may use a different airport from your long-haul arrival. Inspect the onward ticket rather than treating every journey labelled Nairobi as a connection within JKIA.

Establish whether the next flight remains at JKIA

Ask the airline or safari operator for the exact airport code, terminal and meeting instructions after a late arrival. A Wilson departure requires a plan beyond movement inside JKIA. Confirm baggage collection and entry requirements before attempting that transfer. Keep both reservations and any provider message explaining how a delayed international arrival changes the onward travel arrangements.

Keep a self-rebooking confirmation, not only its offer

Kenya Airways publishes a self-rebooking process for rescheduled or cancelled flights using the booking reference and surname. If this option applies to your ticket, save the confirmed replacement and not just a screenshot of available seats. Check that the change includes all necessary onward sectors. For another carrier, use its own disruption desk or booking channel instead of assuming the Kenya Airways tool can amend the ticket.

Trace responsibility across the air and safari bookings

Record the scheduled and actual NBO arrival, the operator of the missed flight and whether the onward journey was on the same ticket. Retain accommodation or ground-transport approval from whichever company arranged it. If your luggage does not arrive with you, obtain the airline baggage reference at JKIA as a distinct record. A safari supplier's loss invoice does not by itself explain the airline's operational delay.

Departing from NBO

Departure from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport alone does not create a fixed EU261 or UK261 band. An arrival into the EU/EEA/Switzerland or UK may require the operating carrier's status to be checked.

Arriving at NBO

If NBO is the final destination, keep the scheduled and actual door-open or arrival record. Coverage can come from the departure country or operating carrier rather than this airport's location.
