MAN: connections and disruption help

Manchester's terminal arrangements changed during its redevelopment: Terminal 1 closed in March 2026. An old confirmation, parking instruction or travel blog can therefore send a disrupted passenger to the wrong place.

Use today's airline and terminal assignment

Check the airport's Which Terminal tool for the operating airline and confirm the assignment again after rebooking. Avoid assuming that a carrier still uses its former Terminal 1 location. If an airline moves you to another carrier, the new check-in area matters as much as the flight number. Tell the transport or parking provider about the revised terminal before arranging collection.

Ask whether your transfer is eligible

Manchester has a Flight Transfer Centre for eligible connections, but its availability is not a promise that every two-flight itinerary can stay airside. Show staff both boarding passes and ask whether your bags are checked to the final destination. If the transfer requires the public arrivals route, allow for the UK border, bag reclaim, the terminal change and a new security check.

Separate an airline delay from a terminal problem

Record the stand or gate arrival, transfer-centre instructions and time the onward gate closed. If you were sent through arrivals or told to retrieve baggage, retain that instruction with the bag tag. For a cancelled evening departure, obtain a confirmed next-day terminal before leaving for a hotel. These details make a missed-connection account more useful than a general statement that Manchester was busy.

Departing from MAN

A journey departing Manchester Airport normally starts with UK261 coverage, whatever the operating airline's nationality. Compensation still depends on the disruption, final-arrival delay, notice, rerouting and cause.

Arriving at MAN

For a flight arriving at MAN from outside the UK, check whether the operator is a UK or EU airline. A UK destination alone does not cover every foreign airline; a UK operator can also bring certain EU-bound journeys within UK rules.
