LGW: connections and disruption help

At Gatwick, North and South are separate terminals joined by a shuttle. The railway station is at South Terminal, so a train departure and an airline departure do not necessarily start in the same building.

Check the terminal after every rebooking

Read the replacement flight's terminal in the airport's live flight information rather than relying on where your cancelled flight was due to leave. A North-to-South change adds a shuttle journey before the normal airline formalities. If you arrive by rail for a North Terminal flight, follow the inter-terminal shuttle signs; do not use the railway arrival time as the time you reached the airline's check-in area.

Connections require a border plan

Gatwick's passenger guidance says connecting passengers need to enter the UK. Confirm entry documents as well as the onward boarding pass before treating an itinerary as a simple airside stop. When bags must be reclaimed, include the reclaim and fresh bag-drop deadlines in your decision. A quoted minimum transfer time does not guarantee that your particular delayed connection remains possible.

Record the cost of an airport switch

Heathrow and Gatwick are different airports. If the airline proposes Heathrow after a Gatwick cancellation, obtain the new flight confirmation and transport arrangement together. Keep North/South terminal details, shuttle notices, train or coach receipts and the timing of the offer. These distinguish airline rerouting expenses from a separately chosen trip into London or an independently booked replacement.

Departing from LGW

A journey departing Gatwick Airport normally starts with UK261 coverage, whatever the operating airline's nationality. Compensation still depends on the disruption, final-arrival delay, notice, rerouting and cause.

Arriving at LGW

For a flight arriving at LGW from outside the UK, check whether the operator is a UK or EU airline. A UK destination alone does not cover every foreign airline; a UK operator can also bring certain EU-bound journeys within UK rules.
