Cairo International Airport (CAI) passenger rights

Practical preparation for a delay, cancellation or missed connection involving Cairo. Start with the complete ticketed journey and operating airline—not the airport name alone.

CAI: connections and disruption help

At Cairo International, confirm the terminal using the operating flight rather than a general Cairo booking label. The airport directory distinguishes Terminals 1, 2 and 3. A change of carrier after cancellation may therefore change the terminal and the route you need to follow.

Ask which inter-terminal route is available

Cairo Airport describes its automated people mover and distinguishes airside from landside movement. Do not assume every connecting passenger can use every route without immigration. Show the two boarding passes to the transfer staff and ask whether you remain in transit or must collect baggage. Keep any written direction if the replacement departs from a terminal different from the original flight.

Hotel confirmation does not decide entry permission

EgyptAir's airport guidance notes that a transit-hotel confirmation does not guarantee entry into Egypt. If an overnight disruption produces a hotel offer, clarify the location, entry process and transport before leaving the transfer area. A traveller unable to enter should return to the airline's transfer desk for an alternative, rather than assuming a cityside voucher is usable.

Separate Cairo airport help from the carrier's decision

Airport staff can direct you through the building; the operating airline issues the replacement transport and written disruption explanation. Record the terminal, desk and instruction received, including any required bag collection. Keep the original ticket showing the whole connection through CAI and the final replacement arrival. If a tour representative handles the rebooking, request the airline confirmation as well as the representative's message.

Departing from CAI

Departure from Cairo International Airport alone does not create a fixed EU261 or UK261 band. An arrival into the EU/EEA/Switzerland or UK may require the operating carrier's status to be checked.

Arriving at CAI

If CAI is the final destination, keep the scheduled and actual door-open or arrival record. Coverage can come from the departure country or operating carrier rather than this airport's location.
